Czech the Facts of the Past

Hey! This is where I will attempt to post the past Czech Facts of the Day! Keep track and maybe someday they'll create a Czech Trivial Pursuit that you will be able to dominate! ;-)


2/22/10- Czechoslovkia became known as two separate countries when the regions split amicably in 1993--they are now referred to as the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
 2/23/10- The "Good King Wenceslas" (from the Christmas carol) was actually the first Czech national hero, Vaclav. He was a king that was assassinated and then sainted by the Church in the 10th Century.
2/24/10- The Czech people speak Czech. Easy enough, right? :-)
2/25/10- Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is pronounced Prava in Czech. Be sure to take a look at the city's major English newspaper on the link below!
    3/20/10- The Czech Republic has 3 major regions: Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia.
 5/16/10- Former Pittsburgh Penguin, Jaromir Jagr was the first Czechoslavakian hockey player to be drafted without having to defect to the West.

5/12/10- The currency in the Czech Republic is the koruna.


8/4/10-Czechs consider more people to be aquaintances than friends.


9/2/10- Ostrava has trams which are basically trains that run on the street.


11/22/10- Czechs don't sit on the cold floor. They believe it is somewhat unhealthy for a person and can in fact maybe freeze your ovaries.
